Learning Ranch Life the Real Way

Education, leadership, and a few turkeys (and calves) along the way.

Lauren didn’t learn about agriculture through a textbook first.
She found it the Cariboo way: outside, hands-on, with neighbouring ranches as her teacher and the work always waiting.

Growing up at 134 Mile Ranch meant responsibility showed up early. Through 4-H, Lauren raised turkeys, took on cow/calf projects, explored photography, and learned what it means to commit to something and see it through.

And she’s honest about this life: agriculture is deeply fulfilling — but it asks a lot. The days can be long, the learning curve is steep, and the people who do it full-time carry a level of dedication that deserves real respect.

For Lauren and her family, the ranch has been part of a new chapter — built alongside her dad’s work in forestry — a place to grow skills, connection, and possibility.

That foundation carried her into Thompson Rivers University’s Regenerative Agriculture program in Williams Lake, and onward to Olds College, where she blended hands-on ranch experience with business and risk-management tools.

Lauren is part of what’s next in Cariboo agriculture: grounded, capable, and learning with both heart and humility.

Cariboo. It’s true.
